And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh: and I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell: but thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac. -Genesis 24:2-4

In the beginning, God acted as the first Shadkhan, or matchmaker, commanding Adam and Eve to cleave together as "one flesh." Eve, taken from Adam's body, became the first bride.

We read in Genesis 24 how Abraham's servant Eliezer, which means "God's helper" in Hebrew, acted as a matchmaker modeled after the Heavenly Father and found the suitable bride for Abraham's son, Isaac. Abraham, having realized the Canaanite women whom he lived among were morally unsuitable, sent Eliezer to find the perfect match from among his own family and of his father's house.

In the same way, God the Father sent His helper, the Holy Spirit, to His kindred, from among God's people to take a bride for His son, Yeshua. He invites all who are members of His family to become the bride.

In Genesis 24:4, Abraham instructs his servant to "go unto my country, and to my kindred." He also told his servant to not take his son Isaac back again (verse 6). This depicts how the Holy Spirit is to seek a bride while Christ is to remain in Heaven with the Father, until the time comes for God to restore all things (Acts 3:20-21). Just as Abraham's servant Eliezer had charge over all he had (Genesis 24:2), so the Holy Spirit has all of the Heavenly Father's resources at His disposal.

Notice that it is the Bridegroom (or bridegroom's father/servant) who selected the bride (not vice-versa). Yahweh/Yeshua is always the one who initiates the love relationship with His bride. He chose and selected us, as Scripture says in 1 John 4:19, "We love him, because he first loved us." And, in John 15:16: "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain."
